You can get free viewers from download.microsoft.com for Office files. These veiwers are so users who don't own Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Visio to read the native files. You can't edit the file, but you can print from the viewers.

Download the viewers from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?productID=&freetext=office+viewer&DisplayLang=en  . You'll need to read the descriptions carefully because this search finds many downloads you may not need, including viewers for Windows 3.1.
