If deleting your cookies and browser history does not make you confident that your web browsing tracks are eliminated, there is a way to surf completely anonymously. It is called TOR and it is free!

First, download and install a small freeware app called Privoxy (www.privoxy.org). You must then change a line in one of its settings files. Full instructions are at "find.pcworld.com/48052" (no www's.)

Then, in Internet Explorer click; tools > internet options > the connections tab > LAN settings button. Check use proxy server for your LAN and click Advanced. In the HTTP field enter localhost; and in the port field enter 8118.

In Firefox go to tools > options > connection settings. Fill in the same information outlined for IE in the field labeled "HTTP proxy."
