McAfee Anti-virus Suite Leaves Pesky Pieces
« on: January 15, 2010, 08:25:20 PM »
I just figured out my computer problem. Well, it was McAfee. Apparently there is a well-known "feature" of it and other BIG Anti-virus & Anti-malware Suites, in they leave components of themselves when removed via 'Add & Remove Programs'. These continue to run and cause sluggish operation.

I called Viper tech support this afternoon -- I had just installed it after removing McAfee the day before -- and after just a few minutes wait, the tech came on the line and said that McAfee wasn't completely removed by the ole A & R P. He went on to say that if I went to Google.com and entered "McAfee Removal Tool" that it would be the first item at the top of the list. All I needed to do was download and run it and that would fix the issue.
It sure did. It does a tremendous amount of work. Trust me, a lot. I was going to post the log but it was too long.

All that's left to do is find all my gadgets and goodies that I eliminated from the 'start up' folder and I'll be done. I'm happy, the computer's happy, now if I can just remember where I put that darn EClean2000...

Did you install Vipre?  How is it working?

One of the advatages they promote is that it doesn't use as much memory or resources as the "the big guys".
